Scars result from a full thickness wound to the skin. Hypertrophic scars are red, thick scars that heal above the skin. Our office has treated traumatic scars from accidents, scars from surgeries such as heart bypass, breast reduction surgery, tummy tucks, hair transplant scars in the back of the scalp and many other surgical procedures. Lasers are a highly effective safe treatment option to reduce the redness and thickness of a scar. The laser fires an intense, short burst of natural light which is absorbed by the scar tissue. The reaction of the laser light and the scar causes a gradual reduction in thickness and redness of the scar. Patients are able to resume all activities right after the laser treatment. Most patients will have 4-6 treatments for a 60-80% reduction in thickness and redness of the scar.
