Hair Transplant Specialist & Cosmetic Dermatologist located in Upper East Side, New York, NY

By the age of 35, approximately 40% of men will experience hair loss. This increases to 65% by the age of 60. Women are not immune; by the age of 60, 80% of women will have noticeable hair loss. This is why Dr. Marc Avram provides innovative robotic hair transplants using follicular unit extraction technology to help his patients from the Upper East Side neighborhood of New York City and throughout the world. The robotic device harvests individual follicular units from the donor region. Each incision is less than 1 millimeter and, as a result, heals on average in 2 to 4 days with minimal visible scarring.

Robot Hair Transplants (FUE)

What is a robotic hair transplant?

Robotic hair transplants allow for efficient harvesting of high quality individual follicular units with minimal scarring, using a robotic follicular unit extraction (FUE) mechanism. Robotic FUE has revolutionized the hair transplant process by enabling hair loss specialists like Dr. Avram to transplant hundreds, or even thousands, of individual hair follicles without leaving a visible scar on the scalp. Robotic FUE requires no sutures and the minimal resulting scarring allows patients to wear their hair short with no clear evidence a surgery was performed in that area.

The use of the robotic technology, close video monitoring, and careful algorithms to identify the best hair follicles for harvest means that patients show almost no signs of the removal of follicles and a more natural appearance overall.

What happens during FUE?

When patients have their hair follicles harvested in an FUE procedure, they relax in a comfortable chair and stay awake throughout the procedure. Local anesthesia is applied to the scalp before the harvest begins. The robot identifies the angle of hair growth and carefully removes follicular groupings without damaging the follicles or creating a patch on the patient’s scalp. This method allows the harvest of hundreds or thousands of tiny grafts that Dr. Avram is then able to transplant to the frontal scalp areas where the hair is thinning.

The transplantation follows the extraction immediately. The follicles are placed using delicate microvascular forceps into minuscule pinpoint incisions. The body’s natural ability to clot and heal helps to secure the transplanted follicles into the scalp.

What are the benefits of robotic hair transplants?

There are many benefits to the FUE robotic hair transplant method. First, Dr. Avram is able to harvest a much greater quantity of viable hair follicle grafts than would be possible with manual harvesting techniques.

Second, the FUE method doesn’t require any sutures and results in minimal scarring. Patients enjoy a natural appearance at both the donor site and the transplant site on the scalp. FUE robotic hair transplants provide a natural appearing option for patients who prefer short hair. The robotic procedure is quicker and of higher quality than most follicular units harvested by physicians.
