Laser Treatment for Hair Growth
Folix, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and low-level laser therapy (LLLT) are nonsurgical options that can help stimulate hair growth in appropriately selected women and men. Folix uses a 1565-nm nonablative fractional laser to create controlled microscopic treatment zones in the scalp. This process sends a signal to hair follicles to grow longer and thicker while leaving the scalp surface intact.
Folix can be used as a stand-alone treatment. This is especially appealing for patients who prefer an office-based approach or who cannot tolerate daily hair-loss medication. In clinical research, a series of treatments increased hair counts in men and women with androgenetic alopecia, also called pattern hair loss. Improvement develops gradually because follicles need time to respond and produce visible hair.
Folix may also be combined with established therapies. PRP delivers concentrated platelets and growth factors from the patient's own blood. LLLT uses lower-energy red light regularly at home or in the office. Topical or oral minoxidil may help prolong the growth phase, while finasteride or dutasteride may reduce hormonal miniaturization in appropriate patients. Because these treatments work differently, a dermatologist may recommend combining Folix with PRP, LLLT, or medication to support a broader treatment plan.
The best choice depends on the diagnosis, degree of thinning, medical history, and treatment goals. Folix is not a cure, and results vary. A dermatologist should first determine whether the problem is pattern hair loss or another condition requiring different care. For patients, it offers a treatment with minimal downtime, alone or within a program
